No previous experience of deafness is necessary. The course would suit you if you work with the public, deal with customers face to face, in writing, on the telephone or work with deaf staff or you simply want to understand more about deaf people.
Options of course times: 1 full day 9 30 – 5 30 / 3 sessions for 2.5 hours / 2 sessions for 4 hours.
Venue Sign Studio has its own venue based in Lancashire where they run courses throughout the year that you can attend. It can also deliver its courses at venues throughout the country. Within your own premises or by booking a suitable venue for you.
What is the course all about? It looks at how Deafness affects direct communication. You will be learning through activities set by your tutor. Activities will be done individually in pairs and in groups. They will include quizzes, discussion and role-play and games.
How will I know when I’m making progress? Participants will be able to assess their own progress throughout the course. Tutors will give feedback during activities and you will be able ask as questions if you have any queries. You will also be involved in a simulation mock exam through roleplay, prior to CACDP’s exam.
Exam Information: The CACDP Communication Tactics is a practical exam that last’s approximately 10 minutes. You will have to set up the room to enable appropriate communication to take place and communicate with a deaf assessor repairing communication breakdowns when necessary.
Will there be any homework? This depends on what course you have applied for. You may be given handouts to read and asked to watch the Communication Tactics Homework video.
What do I expect to learn?

What can I expect to gain?A Nationally recognised Communication Tactics Certificate if you pass the exam. A course that will help you to meet your requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act, by understanding barriers that deaf people face and implementing changes to enable equal access. Skills that will enable you to improve communication with deaf people and people in general.
